2. We recently received the following email from a former pupil of the WMSS:

'My name is Marjorie Harper, born Marjorie E Jennings, whilst travelling down memory lane recently I turned on to the old school and saw 2 items of news, the first was about a bible prize given to a G Page. Geoff Page was in my A form so it looks as if he went over to America as Ken Atkins did before him, Three boys in my form were always top of the form, Page, Shirley and Rogers, I never knew what Shirley went on to do,, but Rogers became head of the Business mans assoc, before Jones.

In my day families went to the school, my father and his sisters went to the higher grade school, my two brothers (Frederick John, and George Henry) went to WMSS, followed by myself.

The second item of news was rather sad for me for it told of the lectern no longer being in the school. My husand was John Selwyn Harper another family at the school, Dora Nancy Harold and Myra followed by John Selwyn, Mr Frank and Mrs Harper gave the handmade oak lectern to the school in about 38-39 as a thank you to the school for the education they had given to the family. John read a lesson regularly winking his eye at me as he reurned to his place at the side of the hall as a prefect.
In fact his lesson was read out at his funeral together with a hymn from the school hymnal. I was asked many times afterwards why they were chosen and I told folk it was his wish from his life. I hope you find the lectern.

I was in 1A with Miss Mary Mountain, as he was in the famous 4A with Gerry Dudley in Rooms 2 and 3 in those days.
John was Harrys friend and my hushand in 1952. When I look through my photographs if there are any I feel of interest to you I will ask my son to forward them on to you

John used to help Ernie Ford at the school camp I know there are some old snaps of that era.

I will see what I have of mine, might even have a photo of the brainy boys

Well done to W.M.S.S. best wishes to you all Marjorie Harper

Remember me to Iris Swain, and please excuse all my typing errors.'
